The Ritual of Becoming is a spatial installation created by OURHOOD & LIGNA, presented as part of DOPIR.

OURHOOD is a contemporary Bulgarian furniture brand rooted in solid wood craftsmanship, sustainability, and timeless design.

LIGNA is a studio that approaches wood as a living material — structural, expressive, and full of potential beyond its functional role.

The collaboration between the two emerged naturally from a shared belief that wood is not simply a material to be shaped, but a process to be understood.

The Ritual of Becoming explores this idea of transformation. At its core, the installation is not about the finished object, but about everything that leads to it — the process, the resistance of the material, and the human gestures that shape it. It reveals what is usually hidden: the cutting, the shaping, the decisions made in real time, and the dialogue between hand and matter.

The installation is built from solid wood, intentionally left honest and exposed. At one end the material is not disguised or perfected, but allowed to show its weight, texture, and imperfections. In this way, wood becomes both subject and storyteller — carrying the memory of its transformation from raw timber into cultural form.

Accompanying the physical structure is a subtle sound layer, composed from recordings of the making process itself — the cutting of wood, the contact of tools, and the rhythm of fabrication. This sound transforms the installation into a multi-sensory environment, where material becomes atmosphere and process becomes memory.

The Ritual of Becoming is ultimately about revealing what design usually hides. It positions creation not as a single moment of completion, but as a continuous ritual — a becoming. A space where material, maker, and time exist in constant dialogue, and where design is understood not as an object, but as an experience of transformation
